Every month the team at Nickel Brook votes on who they feel deserves special recognition for going above and beyond the call of duty. The winner gets a night out at a local restaurant, and the crown of Employee of the Month…until they’re dethroned the next month! We’ll be featuring our winning employees here to spread their fame far and wide. This month’s winner is one of our newest and most keen team members, Ben Gardner, Events Coordinator.

How did you first get into the craft beer industry?

I was super interested in getting into a brewery, and a friend who worked at a bar suggested I speak to a sales rep from one of them. That happened to be our now marketing director! One thing led to another and I was brought onto the events team, and shortly after was promoted to coordinator to take over when Tory moved into sales. Long story short, sales reps can be pretty cool.

What does your job entail? What’s an average day look like for you?

Lots of prep and emails. Ensuring our @info account is responded to and monitored, staffing and executing everything from small samplings to massive festivals. Keeping our events equipment organized, cleaned, and in working condition. Oh, and beer.

What’s the best part of your job?

It’s challenging , which makes it a blast to do. It’s incredibly rewarding when a event goes off perfectly!

Tell us an embarrassing or funny story from your job

I was in a bit of a rush one day and detached a coupler from a keg too soon. I had a literal beer shower all over me and the customers and at a festival. To make matters worse, I had to drive home that evening reeking of beer. Passing a ride check was not fun.

What beer is in your fridge right now?

Swoon, Saison America, Sun Drop, and High Grade from Fairweather, and all of our Uber series from Cherry to Blue Plum.
